Humans, Gityans, Tieflings and Others: Baldur’s Gate 3 Race Variation Details

Larian Studios is gearing up to launch Baldur’s Gate 3 in Early Access on Steam and Google Stadia on October 6. These races include humans, Stithians, elves (high elves, wood elves), a drow (sworn to Celadrin, sworn to Lolth), half-elves (upper half-elves, wooden half-elves, half-drow), dwarves (golden, shield), halflings (light-legged half halfling) and tieflings (spawn of Asmodeus, Mephistopheles or Zariel). Certain races, such as drow and gityankas, will have unique interactions with different NPCs, and this may affect the overall play of the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will feature a highly detailed character editor for all races and sub-races, based on 3D scanning of actors and models. Hero creation includes hundreds of appearances – Larian Studios has stated that each character will be unique, and “the world reacts to you as if you and your choice are unique

More about the types of heroes:

    • Humans: The most common face seen in Faerнеn. People are known for their tenacity, creativity, and endless ability to grow. They live fully in the present, making them suitable for an adventurous life, but also planning for the future, striving to leave a lasting legacy;
    • Gityankas: Peerless warriors from the Astral Plane, renowned for their legendary silver blades and riding red dragons. They seek the complete destruction of the mind flayers, whose ancient empire has enslaved the race for millennia;
    • high elves: heirs of the mystical fairy world. Appreciate magic in all its forms, and even those who do not learn spells can manipulate wild magic;
    • Drow (Oathsworn to Celadrin): Drow is the result of an ancient rift between the elven deities Corellon Larethian and Lolth. Betrayal drove the race into the Underdark, where it split into warring factions. The drow Seldarine can be found seeking allies from across Faerнаn, seeking to resolve their conflict with Lolth — and each other — by any means necessary;
    • Drow (Sworn Oath to Lolth): Raised by the cult of Lolth in the city of Menzoberranzan, this drow extols the virtues of their depraved and ruthless goddess. Lolth marks his followers with bright red eyes so that the inhabitants of the Underdark will fear the drow at first sight;
    • half-elf high: there is still a part of the fae heritage in the blood of these elves, and even those who are not trained in magic can use wild magic;
    • Half-Forest Elf: Like the Forest Elves, these half-elves possess supernatural speed, good eyesight, and stealth skills. However, many leave the forest of Faerнаn to explore the rest of the realms;
    • Half-Drow: Most half-drow are the result of a bond between the drow of the Seldarine and those living on the surface. Although members of this race inherit some magical gifts, they are not usually raised in the Underdark;
    • Dwarves (Gold): Known for their confidence and keen intuition. The culture of their Deep Kingdom values family, ritual, and excellence;
    • Dwarves (shield): survived a long fall from the summit, surrendering many of their ancient kingdoms in wars with goblins and orcs. These losses have led to cynical thinking, but the shield dwarves will endure whatever it takes to rebuild their ancestral lands;
      • tieflings (Mephistopheles): descended from the archdevil Mephistopheles. Endowed with a special penchant for arcane magic;
      • Tieflings (Zariel): Descended from Zarael. Endowed with fighting power and can direct scorching flames at their enemies.

      You will have six classes to choose from when creating your character: healer, fighter, ranger, rogue, warlock, and wizard. Each of them has at least two subclasses.

      The early access version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will take up about 80 GB of storage space, Larian Studios director Michael Dowse said on Twitter.
