Hyundai and KIA jointly rank fourth in the electric vehicle market this year

Many automakers are now preparing for a major business transformation, as a result of which they will be more dependent on the sale of electric vehicles, and less on the sale of classic cars with internal combustion engines. According to the results of nine months of this year, the Korean Hyundai Motor Group ranked fourth in the world in terms of sales of electric vehicles.

According to SNE Research, as noted by Business Korea, Hyundai and KIA brands sold about 130,000 electric vehicles from January to September of this year, including purebred electric vehicles and rechargeable hybrids with internal combustion engines. During the same period last year, the Korean conglomerate sold only 93 thousand cars of this type, content with the sixth place in the ranking.

Notable growth in sales of Korean electric vehicles were observed in the European market, as well as the recovery of the US and Chinese markets, which began in the third quarter. The most popular electric vehicles of the Korean concern are the Kona Electric and Niro EV. According to the results of nine months, Tesla took the first place with 316 thousand electric vehicles sold, the Volkswagen Group came in second with 233 thousand electric vehicles, and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance was limited to 148 thousand electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.
