India to release a very cheap laptop with Android and Snapdragon 665 processor

Last year, Google announced a partnership with Indian mobile operator Reliance Jio. The goal of this partnership is to provide Internet access to as many people as possible. Earlier it was reported that Google, together with Reliance Jio, is developing a budget smartphone worth $ 50. It has now become known that the companies are working on an ultra-affordable laptop based on a mobile processor.

XDA Developers reports that Reliance Jio is preparing to launch a laptop connected to the Internet over cellular networks. The device is supposed to debut under the name JioBook and will use Google’s Android as the operating system. It is reported that the development of the laptop began in September 2020. Curiously, the device will be based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset, which is equipped with the Snapdragon X12 LTE modem. As for the rest of the parameters, the laptop will be available in versions with 2 or 4 GB of RAM, and the capacity of the eMMC 5.1 drive will be 32 or 64 GB. It is assumed that the device will use a combination of DRAM / NAND chips manufactured by Samsung so that its cost will be quite low.

Among other characteristics of the device, it is worth noting an HDMI port, a Qualcomm audio chip, a single-band Wi-Fi module, Bluetooth, and a three-axis accelerometer. The test version of the laptop is running Android 11. It is reported that Microsoft applications such as Teams, Edge, and Office are integrated into the firmware. The JioBook is expected to be unveiled in May this year. Its cost is still unknown, but it will obviously be shallow.
