Introduced new Mac mini with M1 processor – Apple’s cheapest computer

Apple today held its third presentation this fall for its computers. In addition to introducing its first in-house computer processor, the M1, the macOS Big Sur optimized laptop, and the MacBook Air, Apple unexpectedly unveiled the new Mac mini desktop computer. And it’s also built on the Apple M1.

Apple called the new product the fastest Mac mini ever created. The performance of the central processor is three times higher, and the graphic one is six times higher than that of its predecessors. And due to the presence of a powerful neuro block, in tasks related to artificial intelligence, the novelty can be up to 15 times more productive. All this is provided by the new Apple M1 processor, which we talked about in more detail here. Note that due to the more powerful cooling system, the processor in Mac mini will work at a higher frequency and provide better performance than in laptops, but the specific frequency values are not specified.

In addition, the new Mac mini uses up to 60% less power than its predecessors, again thanks to the new processor. The system can carry up to 16 GB of RAM and a solid-state drive up to 2 TB. The basic version has 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

The system supports displaying images in resolutions up to 6K, that is, it can be fully used with proprietary Apple Pro Display XDR displays. The question “why” remains open.

Mac mini also supports the latest Thunderbolt / USB4 interfaces in the form of two USB Type-C ports. It will probably be the first commercially available computer with this interface. The novelty is not devoid of the usual USB 3.1 Type-A (two), as well as network Ethernet, HDMI 2.0 video output, and even a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

But perhaps the nicest thing about the new Mac mini is its $ 699 price tag. This is $ 100 cheaper than its predecessor, but in Russia, the situation with the ruble exchange rate darkens the joy: the basic version will cost 74,990 rubles.
