IPhone 12 users will be able to update iOS over 5G networks. Older iPhones can only be updated over Wi-Fi

According to online sources, the Apple iPhone 12 smartphones introduced this month feature an update to the iOS software platform via fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks. The source says that this feature is implemented in all four models of the new generation of iPhone. Previous iPhone models will only be able to update via Wi-Fi.

According to the available data, users will need to activate the corresponding option in the device settings in order to download operating system updates via the 5G network. To do this, you need to go to the “Settings” menu, go to changing the cellular communication parameters and activate the “Allow more data in 5G” option. The source says that activating this setting improves the quality of the videos being watched and improves the picture during calls via FaceTime, and also allows third-party applications to use more cellular data to expand the capabilities when connected to a 5G network.

The source notes that the ability to update the software platform using 5G will only be available when the previously mentioned option is activated. All legacy iPhones and iPhone 12s running on LTE will only be able to download iOS updates after a Wi-Fi connection is established.

The message also confirms the information that when using the iPhone 12 in Dual SIM mode, there is no 5G connection support for each of the lines. This restriction applies to all countries except China. Apple is expected to add 5G support on Dual SIM in other regions later this year.
