IPhones are “in”: iPhone 12 is pre-ordered more actively than previous models

TF International Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo said in a research note for investors released on Sunday, October 18 that pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 12 Pro exceeded expectations on the first weekend since registration began.

According to the analyst, the volume of pre-orders for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro in the first weekend after the start amounted to a total of 7 to 9 million units, and these numbers will only grow with the start of sales of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and mini in November. In a note to investors, Kuo indicated that only the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro will be able to nearly match the sales of the entire iPhone 11 family in 2019. According to experts, Apple sold between 10 million and 12 million iPhone 11 devices in its first month of sales in 2019.

Kuo previously indicated that his forecasts for the supply of new iPhone smartphones, the iPhone 12 model ranks first with 40-45% of the stock. However, the large number of pre-orders for the iPhone 12 Pro forced him to reconsider the proportions of possible shipments of smartphone models.

“The pre-order for the iPhone 12 Pro‌ has exceeded our expectations due to the initial preference of Apple fans for high demand models in the Chinese market and the approaching seasonal peak in demand in the US and Europe, ” Kuo said in a research note. UBS also predicted low demand for the iPhone 12 Pro.

With new demand data emerging, Kuo now estimates that the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max will account for roughly 30-35% of each new Apple smartphone shipment this quarter. Kuo also cut his forecasts for iPhone 12 Mini shipments, saying it would only account for 10-15% of shipments, up from 20-25% earlier. The analyst attributed this forecast to weak demand for a smaller model in the Chinese market.

Pre-orders for new iPhone models in Russia will start on October 21, and the first buyers will receive their new smartphones in just two days – on Friday, October 23rd.
