They were brothers, but not twins

Pixel 8 and 8 Pro smartphones support face unlock. Even though both only have a single front-facing camera, Google says that thanks to AI and the power of Tensor G3, the new Pixel’s Face Unlock feature is very secure and compliant with Class 3, which is the highest level of biometric security in Android. However, perhaps the reality is somewhat less rosy.

One of the first owners of the Pixel 8 Pro said on Reddit that his brother was able to unlock his smartphone, more than once. At the same time, the author notes that he and his brother are not twins.

Interestingly, when the brothers tried the same trick on the Pixel 7 Pro, they didn’t succeed.

Of course, one case is not yet indicative. For example, we can recall many similar cases during the advent of Apple Face ID. Perhaps Google will improve the software and everything will get better.

However, if not, this could be a problem. That’s because Class 3 means the new face unlock can be used for payment authentication, as well as login verification and other areas where biometrics can be used. And here such system errors are definitely unacceptable.
