PC market growth in EMEA was 11.7%
The traditional PC market in EMEA, which includes Europe, the Middle East and Africa, experienced significant growth in the third quarter of 2020. This is the conclusion reached by IDC analysts referring desktops, laptops and workstations to traditional PCs. According to their calculations, sales of such systems in the specified region amounted to 21.0 million units, which is 11.7% more in annual terms. The market was driven by consumer demand – this segment grew by 29.3%, which was more than enough to offset a slight decrease in sales in the commercial segment, which amounted to 2.1%.
Laptop sales in Western Europe increased by almost 25%
In Western Europe, PC sales rose 10.2%. Analysts attribute the growth to the start of the school year and the increased demand for computers for entertainment, including games, as people spend more time at home due to the pandemic. It is noteworthy that sales in the corporate segment decreased by 4.5%. Sales of desktop PCs fell especially – by 52.2% in annual terms. At the same time, notebook sales grew by 24.8%.
Consolidation of the traditional PC market has slowed somewhat, and in the third quarter of 2020, the combined share of the top five manufacturers declined. Now it is equal to 78.1%, while a year ago the top five accounted for 81.5% of sales, and in the second quarter of this year – 84.0%. HP remains the leader with a share of 25.1%. In second place is Lenovo with 23.4%, in third – Dell with 10.9%. The share of Asus, which ranks fourth, is 9.5%, and Acer closes the top five with 9.2%.
