LG kicks off AirPlay 2 and HomeKit features for 2018 smart TVs

In September, LG launched the Apple TV app for smart OLED and UHD TVs in 2018 (B8, C8, E8, G8, W8). However, the AirPlay and Homekit features were not ported, the company promised to add them at the end of the year, which finally happened.

Initially, these features were only intended for the 2019 and 2020 smart TV families. The company’s opinion, TVs in 2018 could not cope with the proper operation of these functions, but as transfers edition MacRumors, tens of thousands of users began to write at LG with the request to reconsider this decision. As a result, the company listened to its customers. AirPlay 2 lets you stream audio and video content to your TV from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac computers. And integration with HomeKit gives users the ability to control the TV from a mobile device through Apple’s Home app. Other companies like Samsung, Sony, and Vizio also support the Apple TV app, AirPlay 2, and Homekit on the latest generations of their TVs.

The update is spreading in waves, so new features will become available to all users after some time. The company also announced in July that its 2019 ThinQ AI TV smart TVs will begin receiving an update on July 25 to support Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit.
