LG roll-out smartphone unveiled in early spring
Internet sources report that the South Korean company LG has scheduled the presentation of at least two curious smartphones for the first quarter of next year.
In particular, the device codenamed Rainbow will debut in January or February. It will be a productive device, which, however, may remain without the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 processor. According to rumors, LG has decided to wait until the second half of 2021 with the release of devices on this platform.
In March, the company is expected to announce a unique smartphone under the B Project program. A feature of this device will be a flexible display that curls inside the case. Users will be able to pull out the panel if necessary, increasing the usable screen area, say, in games, or when viewing multimedia materials.
Internet sources also note that LG will continue to ramp up production of smartphones based on the ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) model. Such devices carry the LG brand but are manufactured by third parties.
In 2018, ODM devices accounted for about 10% of the total production of LG phones. In 2019, this figure was 30%, and this year it will reach 60%. In 2021, the share of such “pipes” will grow to 70%.
By the end of this year, LG expects to sell about 26 million smartphones. More than 30 million devices are planned to be shipped next year.
