Lucid Air electric car overtakes Tesla Model S in a quarter mile race

Lucid Motors has released a video demonstrating the superiority of its luxury electric Lucid Air sedan, Dream Edition top trim, over a Tesla Model S electric car in a quarter mile (402 m) drag race. The Lucid Motors electric car covered this distance in just 9.9 seconds. According to the manufacturer, this result makes Lucid Air the fastest consumer electric sedan in the world.

Unfortunately, the video does not indicate which version of the Tesla Model S the Lucid Motors electric car was competing against. According to the manufacturer, the Lucid Air Dream Edition can reach speeds from 0 to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 2.5 seconds. Moreover, its maximum speed is 322 km / h.

“The compact, powerful and ultra-efficient Lucid electric motors, combined with an integrated gearbox and differential and a silicon carbide high voltage MOSFET inverter, are a work of art. Each such block contains up to 650 horsepower and rotates at a speed of 20 thousand rpm. However, it weighs only 74 kilograms. It’s compact enough to fit in a standard carry-on bag, ”says Lucid Motors on its official website.

The electric Lucid Air Dream Edition has two such electric units on board with a total capacity of 1080 hp, which allows it to develop almost 4000 Nm of torque. All versions of the electric vehicle have a long-range, according to the company.

Specifically for the Dream Edition variants, the manufacturer claims 517 miles (832 kilometers) mileage on a single battery charge. By the way, the Lucid Air battery is capable of charging very quickly. The power reserve of up to 483 kilometers is replenished in just 20 minutes.

The Lucid Air Dream Edition’s track record puts it on a par with the fastest ICE-powered cars. For example, the same Porsche 918 Spyder. However, the electric car was not as fast as, say, the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 50th Anniversary, which covered the same quarter-mile in 8.5 seconds.
