MacBook Pro has problems charging – laptops stop charging or do it strangely

The publication Gizchina told about massive cases of charging problems among the owners of MacBook Pro laptops. For some people, devices simply do not charge and even changing the battery does not help.

The first reports of such problems appeared around the New Year, but then the journalists of the publication considered this to be isolated cases. However, after two weeks, messages describing similar issues continue to appear on Weibo. The bottom line is this: when a laptop is connected to the network with a remaining battery charge of 1%, the system informs that the battery is not charging, it is recommended to contact support for this.

According to Consumer Report, this problem is most common on 2017 MacBook Pro models, and since most laptops are out of warranty, you will only be able to replace batteries at your own expense. Although those who have resorted to such a solution report that replacing the battery does not help in any way to solve the problem.

Some users believe that the error is related to some kind of software bug in macOS 11.1 Big Sur. The author of this material, who owns a MacBook Pro 16, noticed that he periodically encounters a similar situation – when the computer is connected to the network, the laptop battery does not charge for several minutes, and the computer simply works from the power supply. In this case, after just a few minutes, charging begins. Whether this is some kind of bug or not, it is quite possible that the computer simply accumulates a certain amount of energy and only then starts charging.
