Colleagues from the Tom’s Hardware website undertook to study the dynamics of prices for processors of the Ryzen 5000 family on eBay. They found that the Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X are currently offered at a minimum markup relative to the recommended level, averaging around $ 50. In fact, the eight-core Ryzen 7 5800X in the relative coordinate system is even closer to the MSRP than the cheaper six-core Ryzen 5 5600X.

Ryzen 9 5900X with a recommended price of $ 549 on the eBay online auction is offered for an average of $ 780; the older Ryzen 9 5950X with a recommended price of $ 799 costs at least $ 1150 here. Since the beginning of this year, Matisse models’ prices with 12 and 16 cores have not dropped much, as the authors of the study note. This can be explained by the fact that the Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X are placed on one die with computational cores, and for the production of older models, two crystals with computational cores are required. With a shortage of AMD, it is easier to saturate the market with single-die models, which is what is happening now.

The prices for processors of the Ryzen 3000 family are also falling. The sales volumes of the Ryzen 3 3300X and Ryzen 3 3100 processors are vanishingly small. Even on eBay, they are measured in dozens of copies per quarter. This can also be explained by the fact that AMD focuses on the release of more profitable models in conditions of limited production capacities, and you won’t earn much on budget processors.
