Marvel’s Avengers tops UK charts in debut week
This week, the top three in the UK retail video game chart are in new releases, with Square Enix’s action-adventure Marvel’s Avengers topping the list. The project was jointly developed by Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider series) and Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex series).
Sales of boxed editions of Marvel’s Avengers in the debut week were 2% more than the previous co-op game of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal – Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Compared to the last major game in the Marvel comic book franchise – Marvel’s Spider-Man – the numbers are radically different. Marvel’s Avengers sold one-third less than the Spider-Man action-adventure in its debut week.
The second place went to the skateboarder simulator Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. An updated version of the first two installments of the popular series in the past received good reviews, especially when compared to the previous game in the franchise, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. As a result, the sales of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 in the first week are a whopping 448% higher than its predecessor …
Completed the top three in NBA 2K21. The game did not have a great start on physical media: in the first week, sales were 37% lower than NBA 2K20. Digital sales are not included in this chart.
There were no more new releases. Animal Crossing: New Horizons dropped to number four, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Full Edition returned to number eleven with a 237% increase in sales. Overall, the British bought 37% more games this week than last week.
