Mass Effect remastered collection is not advanced enough for next-gen consoles, and Switch version is in question

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Development Lead Mac Walters in an interview with IGN and Eurogamer explained the selection of target platforms for the hotly anticipated compilation.

Recall that Mass Effect Legendary Edition is being created for PC (Steam, Origin), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Owners of current-generation consoles will have to settle for backward compatibility.

However, according to Walters, there will still be some advantages when playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition on PS5, Xbox Series X, and S (higher frame rates and resolutions), but no more.

“If I buy a game on a next-gen console, I’m expecting a lot – more than we could squeeze out of [Unreal Engine 3] or a full-fledged remake. I would have thought [the release on new consoles] a little disingenuous, ”Walters explained.

As for the potential Switch-version of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Walters does not exclude it, but at this stage, the team is busy with already confirmed target platforms.

“Personally, I’d love to [the Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Nintendo Switch]. But we already have a paved path – let’s first go through it, and then look around, “ – said Walters.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition goes on sale on May 14 this year. The collection includes the first three Mass Effect games ( no multiplayer ) and over 40 downloadable materials for them – from sets of armor and weapons to story additions.
