Microsoft began to get rid of Windows Defender

This step is related to the release of Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection antivirus on the macOS platform. It plans to release the Defender ATP version for the Android mobile OS. Back in March 2019, Microsoft renamed Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection to Microsoft Defender ATP in connection with the launch of the antivirus for Apple computers.

In the big May update of Windows 10 May 2020 Update, the company went even further. In the updated Windows Security application, the name Windows Defender has been quietly replaced with Microsoft Defender. For example, the Windows Defender Offline Scan process has been renamed Microsoft Defender Offline Scan. Other components of Windows Security are also updated to remove all references to Windows Defender.

The Windows 10 May 2020 Update, also known as 2004 and codenamed 20H1, is due to begin rolling out in May. It will bring new features to Cortana’s voice assistant, improvements to Windows Search and support for the Linux subsystem, as well as a ton of small changes to the GUI, including new application icons.
