Microsoft confirms the imminent release of the foldable Surface Duo smartphone in Europe and Canada

This fall, Microsoft launched the Surface Duo foldable smartphone with two displays and the Android operating system. The device is currently only available in the US market. In November, it was reported that Microsoft was preparing to launch the smartphone in other regions. The company has now confirmed that it is preparing to start selling the device in Canada, the UK, France and Germany in early 2021.

First-batch Surface Duo owners complained about issues such as cracking bezels around the charging connector, poor cellular signal reception, and long data delays. These defects are expected to be corrected when the device is launched in other markets.

After all, the rest of the Surface Duo is a very interesting device that can attract users with a convenient implementation of the dual-screen mode and support for the proprietary stylus. In addition, Microsoft said the device will boast better software optimizations for dual-screen performance when it goes global. As an example, the company showed off an updated TikTok client that displays the service’s home screen on one display and video content on another. It is already available on the Google Play store. Microsoft also announced that it will optimize the Teams client next year to deliver the full experience of a dual-screen device. The company says that this is just a small part of the innovations that smartphone users will have access to. Improvements are being prepared for other applications as well.

However, this may not be enough to compete on an equal footing with current flagships. Still, we recall that Microsoft Surface Duo is built on the basis of the year before last flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and lacks 5G support, and is also equipped with only one 11-megapixel camera. Each of the displays has a resolution of 1800 x 1350 pixels. The basic version of the device is now selling for $ 1199.
