Microsoft develops cloud-based virtual desktop service based on Azure
According to online sources, Microsoft is developing Cloud PC, a new cloud service that will allow users to access Windows 10 virtual desktops and desktop applications from multiple devices. Microsoft’s new cloud service is expected to officially launch in the second quarter of this year.
The source says that the Cloud PC service is built on the basis of the cloud solution “Windows Virtual Desktop”, and its purpose is to redefine the concept of “modern workplace”. Service users will be able to connect to virtual desktops from anywhere, similar to how it happens when using the cloud storage OneDrive. The virtual desktops will be hosted on the Azure cloud service servers and can be connected using the Microsoft Remote Desktop app for Windows, Android and iOS platforms.
According to the updated support documentation, the Cloud PC service will use Microsoft Graph technology, which is real-time collaboration and integration tool with the Azure cloud service. The new version of Microsoft Graph introduces APIs for the Cloud PC, which also indicates that the time for a public launch of the service is approaching.
Cloud PC is supposed to allow users to stream Win32 applications to their Windows 10X computers. This makes sense because the modular Windows 10X operating system is a lightweight version of standard Windows 10 with support for apps from the Microsoft Store.
