Microsoft has completed development of Windows 10X and will release the OS in spring 2021

According to online sources, Microsoft has completed the development of Windows 10X, which is a lightweight version of the Windows 10 operating system. Initially, the developers planned to release Windows 10X along with the Microsoft Surface Neo device with two screens. However, later these plans had to be abandoned, and the current version of the software platform is designed for devices with one screen, primarily laptops. Windows 10X will not compete with the standard version of the OS, as it is aimed at budget devices with a small amount of RAM. It is being developed as a complete platform for dual-screen devices, and as a competitor to Google’s Chrome OS in the educational and enterprise segments.

The source notes that internal work on Windows 10X ended in build 202XX (most likely, the last two digits of the OS version number will be changed). Currently, the final version of the OS is in the stage of internal testing, in which Microsoft employees take part. It is assumed that wider testing with the participation of participants in the Insider program will start early next year. If all goes according to plan, the first Windows 10X devices will be on sale between April and June 2021.
