Microsoft has urgently updated Windows 10: this will fix problems in games after installing KB5001330

Windows 10 appears to have received a server-side fix to fix performance drops, lags, screen flickering, or text rendering issues when launching certain games. All of the above issues were noticed after installing the latest Windows 10 updates – KB5001330 (required) and KB5000842 (optional).

Back in March, Microsoft released the KB5000842 add-on, a patch to fix the performance and printing issues caused by the March Patch Tuesday update. But it has led to even more problems for some users, including games. Microsoft was aware of performance issues on many systems. However, they seem to have migrated to Windows 10 KB5001330, which was recently released as a must-have security update. These patches are installed automatically, and the user cannot reject them unless he prohibits system updates or changes the Group Policy settings. But those with Windows 10 Home installed don’t have Group Policies and can only pause updates for one month.

As more and more users received the mandatory update, games were increasingly discussed on the forums. It got to the point where an NVIDIA representative even advised users to uninstall the latest Windows 10 update if they had issues with framerate drops in games.

In addition to gaming, on some Windows 10 systems, the KB5001330 patch leads to several other errors, including the appearance of a blue screen of death, an error with a temporary user profile, an issue with Windows Mixed Reality headsets and corporate software.

In an update to its support document for KB5001330, Microsoft finally confirmed that the issue in Windows 10 updates affects some users: “A small group of users reported poor game performance after installing this update. Most of the users affected by this issue work in full screen or borderless modes and use multiple monitors. “

Microsoft has already prepared a solution to fix this flaw. The fix is deployed as a server-side patch and does not need a full system update. The company sometimes rolls out such updates on the server side – they automatically disable new code introduced in mandatory updates on systems connected to the Windows Update service. The patch is to be distributed this weekend. Some affected users have already informed Windows Latest that their games started running smoothly after they performed an update check and restarted the system.
