Microsoft is already working on next-generation foldable Android smartphone

Microsoft’s first Android smartphone with two screens, the Surface Duo, is still not commercially available, but it is already possible to pre-order it. According to reports, the manufacturer is already working on a next-generation foldable smartphone.

The source says that Microsoft is currently actively recruiting employees to adapt to the Android operating system for dual-screen devices. It is also noted that a development team has already been formed, the members of which will be engaged in the creation of updates and support for the Surface Duo. The smartphone will ship with Android 10, but later, when Google officially launches Android 11, Microsoft’s foldable smartphone software platform will be updated.

As Microsoft relies on dual-screen devices, the next-generation Android smartphone is already under development, which may be called Surface Duo 2. It is noted that this device is codenamed “Zeta”, but since it is in one of the developments of the initial stages, there is no more detailed information about it yet.

Despite the fact that the development of the next generation foldable smartphone is already underway, its announcement is expected to take place only in the second half of next year. Since the launch of the Surface Neo dual-screen tablet that runs Windows 10X has been pushed back to 2022, it might make sense for Microsoft to release a new Android smartphone in the second half of 2021.
