Microsoft is developing a new Outlook app for Windows and Mac

According to online sources, Microsoft is developing a new universal Outlook client for Windows and Mac platforms that will replace the Mail and Calendar applications in Windows 10 in the future. The application is being developed under the codename Monarch and is based on the web version of Outlook.

The source says that the goal of the Monarch project is to replace existing versions of Outlook for different platforms with a universal One Outlook app with a unified user interface and codebase. It is assumed that the new application will be more tightly integrated with the operating system, which will allow implementing various functions, such as support for offline storage, general notifications, etc.

You can get a general idea of what the new Universal Outlook app will look like by opening the web version of the service using a browser. Of course, the current version of Outlook Web Access won’t provide all of the features that Microsoft plans to implement in the new application, but it does give you a general idea of what to expect in the future.

According to reports, Microsoft plans to begin preliminary testing of the universal Outlook application in the second half of 2021, and in 2022 it should replace the Mail and Calendar applications in Windows 10. The developers also plan to replace the outdated Win32 version of Outlook, but most likely, this will take much longer.
