Microsoft releases important security update for old Windows 10 1809

Last week, Microsoft ended support for Windows 10, version 1809. However, a little over a week later, an important security patch was released for the OS. It’s worth noting that no other versions of Windows 10 have received updates.

The patch is distributed as cumulative update KB4594442. Installing it raises the build number to 17763.1579. A note for the update states that it resolves a bug that may cause Kerberos authentication and ticket renewal issues related to the implementation of CVE-2020-17049. It is worth noting that all the fixes integrated into the update are somehow related to the Kerberos authentication service.

While Microsoft considers the update important enough to release it before Patch Tuesday next month, it cannot be obtained through Windows Update. The KB4594442 update can only be downloaded from the Microsoft website.
