Microsoft starts testing Child Mode in Edge

It became known that Microsoft has announced Kids Mode for its Edge browser. It is designed for children ages 5 to 12 and offers several features to make the web experience for young users safer. At this stage, Kids Mode is rolling out to Edge beta users on Dev and Canary.

In children’s mode, support for custom themes is implemented—added articles for kids to help them browse the web safely. Besides, Microsoft Bing Safe Search has been activated, and strict protection against user activity tracking has been set.

To activate the child mode, it is proposed to use the profile selection tool integrated into the browser. This approach does not require creating a separate account, which makes it convenient to use Kids Mode on shared computers. To deactivate child mode, you need to enter the pre-set password. It can also be used to grant permissions to view certain pages.

It is also worth noting that parents will independently form a list of trusted sites that their children can view in the Edge browser. The customizable list of trusted sites is a convenient tool that will allow you to control in detail the pages your child views, which will be useful as the young user grows up.

Microsoft is also aware of plans to add new features to Kids Mode in the future. As for the appearance of the child mode in stable versions of Edge, at the moment, any specific dates have not yet been announced.
