Microsoft Surface Duo Smartphone Case Cracks During Normal Use

Microsoft announced the Surface Duo smartphone on August 12, 2020, and the device went on sale as planned on September 10. But less than a month later, users began to receive complaints about the novelty.

It began with the fact that the owners of a foldable gadget experienced difficulties in transferring applications from one screen to another. There were also camera issues that Microsoft resolved with a software update. But, as it turned out, these were just “flowers”. Recently it became known about a more serious flaw, which cannot be fixed with a patch.

The plastic around the USB Type-C port turned out to be so thin that it cracks easily during everyday use of the smartphone. The problem was pointed out by one of the Surface Duo owners on the Reddit forum. Several other users responded to his message in the comments, who also found cracks on the Surface Duo case near the USB Type-C port.

Even more alarming, a defect can damage the USB Type-C port itself. Since the connector is soldered directly to the motherboard, replacing it is expensive. Plus, as we already know, the Surface Duo is virtually indestructible. For maintainability, iFixit specialists gave the smartphone only two points out of ten.

Recall that the Microsoft Surface Duo is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and is equipped with 6 GB of RAM, a dual 3577 mAh battery, two 5.6-inch AMOLED-screens with a resolution of 1800 × 1350 pixels, and an adaptive 11-megapixel camera. So far, the device is only sold in the United States. The price of the version with 128 GB of built-in flash memory is $ 1400, the 256 GB modification is estimated at $ 1500.
