Microsoft is still trying to buy Activision Blizzard
One of the key top managers of Microsoft swore in court that after the purchase of Activision Blizzard, the Call of Duty series will still be available on Sony PlayStation consoles.
The US District Judge has demanded that Phil Spencer (Phil Spencer), who heads Microsoft Gaming, confirm that the IT giant Sony will not be deprived of the opportunity to offer the popular game on the PlayStation series consoles. According to Bloomberg, Spencer ceremoniously raised his hand and promised that the company will continue to ship future versions of Call of Duty for the Sony PlayStation, adding: “If Sony allows it.” He also added that support for games will continue on new generations of PlayStation, which, according to some reports, are not expected to be released until 2028 at the earliest.
Microsoft vowed to keep Call of Duty on Sony PlayStation consoles if Sony allows it
The historic deal could put Microsoft in third place in the gaming market behind China’s Tencent Holdings Ltd. and Sony. At the same time, the litigation jeopardizes compliance with the deadlines – the deal must be completed before July 18, otherwise the conditions will have to be revised. Microsoft is interested in buying Activision primarily to strengthen its position in the attractive mobile gaming market, and that the deal has nothing to do with the desire to increase Xbox’s share of the console market, as Spencer himself said.
In addition, the FTC believes that the acquisition by the IT giant of a gaming holding will affect competition in the market for game subscriptions and games that can be played thanks to cloud technologies.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Activision CEO Bobby Kotick are expected to stand trial next week.
