Microsoft will again let you choose file upload options in Edge

Microsoft’s move from its own browser engine to Chromium was well received. However, in doing so, the company sacrificed some features exclusive to the old Edge but is gradually bringing them back. Markup tools have returned to Edge 85. Now, apparently, with the release of Edge 87, Microsoft will return the ability to select file upload options.

Before switching to Chromium, the Edge browser offered several file download options, just like Internet Explorer. The user could simply save the file, change the name and save, or simply open, saving the file to a special temporary folder that will be deleted after exiting the browser. Many Edge users love these options. For example, you could just open the program’s installer, and not save it on your computer and then uninstall it manually. However, with the transition to the Chromium engine, files can only be saved, as in Chrome.

Now, with the release of browser version 87.0.629.0, which is available to Edge Insider members in Dev and Canary builds, old boot options can be reverted back to the browser. All you need to do is go to the Downloads page in Edge and activate the “Ask what to do for each download” switch. After that, the work with downloads will be similar to that in Edge Legacy. In addition, Microsoft has added the ability to delete downloaded files directly from the browser.

Microsoft Edge 87 isn’t going to be generally available anytime soon, but users who are anxious to try the new feature can sign up for the Windows Insider program.
