Microsoft will close several apps and services for Windows 10

It became known about Microsoft’s intention to discontinue support and close several applications and services for the software platform Windows 10. We are talking about the application for OCR on photos Office Lens, the old Edge browser on the Edge HTML engine, the Skype for Business Online Connector module, Visio Web Access service, as well as the encryption protocols TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1.

Microsoft is regularly adding new features and apps to Windows 10, as well as getting rid of outdated or obsolete tools. Obviously, the most noticeable for Windows 10 users will be the disappearance of the Office Lens application, which allows you to recognize text from photos with the possibility of further editing. Microsoft has already removed Office Lens from its branded app store. If it was installed on a PC, then it can be used further, but without cloud-based features such as, for example, the ability to save files to OneDrive. Microsoft encourages users to upgrade to mobile versions of Office Lens for Android and iOS devices.

As for the legacy Edge web browser, it will no longer be supported on all current versions of Windows this March. Users are encouraged to upgrade to the new Chromium-based Edge browser. A few more services that will be discontinued this year are more focused on corporate customers. These include the legacy encryption protocols TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1, as well as Skype for Business Online Connector and Visio Web Access.
