Microsoft will get rid of old system icons in Windows 10

Microsoft will finally update the icons in its operating system, some of which have been in use since Windows 95. Developers are gradually improving Windows 10 icons as part of a “radical visual rejuvenation” planned for the end of the year when the Sun Valley feature update becomes available. The appearance of new system icons was announced in March this year, and now it has become known that Microsoft will replace all obsolete icons.

Enthusiasts have discovered new system icons for hibernation, network, floppy drives, and more in the preview versions of Windows 10 currently being tested by insiders. These icons referred to the shell32.dll library, a key part of the user interface, and used to display icons in various dialog boxes of the operating system.

The work to improve the consistency of the look and feel of Windows 10 is part of an ambitious plan to update many of the user interface elements that are being implemented as part of the Sun Valley Project (Windows 10 21H2 Update). This update is expected to be available to a wide range of users in October-November this year and will bring with it not only new features but also a redesigned interface.

Microsoft has been slow to disclose details regarding the Sun Valley update and the future look of the Windows 10 interface. More information is expected to come out during the Microsoft Build developer conference later this month.
