Microsoft will try to optimize Windows development with more permutations

Microsoft this week made significant changes to the management of its Windows development teams, signaling a greater focus on the software platform. We are talking about the reorganization of the Azure division, some of the developers from which were transferred to the Experience and Devices team under the leadership of Panos Panay. He was previously responsible for the development of Surface devices and was made responsible for Windows earlier this year.

More than two years have passed since the Windows developers were split into two teams. Core Windows development went to the Cloud and AI (Azure) division, while Windows 10 “features” such as additional apps, the Start menu, and new features were handled by a dedicated team.

Now, some of the employees of the Core OS and Intelligent Edge (COSINE) division will become subordinates of Panos Panay. This does not apply to employees who are developing the Windows kernel, as they will remain in the Azure division. At the same time, Jeff Johnson, vice president of Microsoft, became the head of the Windows, Developers, and Experiences Engineering division. Microsoft Corporate Vice President Michael Fortin will join the Windows and Devices team to lead the new COSINE service management development, team. On the Azure side, a new Azure Core team is being created within that division to integrate compute, networking, and storage. The new development team will be led by Girish Bablani.

The rearrangements are intended to make Windows development smoother. Moreover, they will encourage developers to act in concert and pay more attention to Windows. Not surprisingly, Microsoft has made a reorganization aimed at streamlining development processes, since even the delivery of updates for Windows 10 has been constantly accompanied by all sorts of troubles lately. Microsoft’s commitment to the development of Windows is a good sign for users of the software platform, which have increased significantly amid the coronavirus pandemic.
