Tested in California
The American Vista X-62A fighter trainer has become the first tactical aircraft controlled by AI. His test flight lasted 17 hours, testing was carried out at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Modified F-16 was able to fly for 17 hours under the control of AI
The aircraft is a modified F-16D Block 30 Peace Marble II with Block 40 avionics and a new livery. The aircraft is equipped with a number of systems that allow it to do without a pilot. Chief among these are Calspan’s VISTA Simulation System (VSS), the Model Follow Algorithm (MFA), and Lockheed Martin’s System for Autonomous Control of the Simulation (SACS). Airborne AI combines all of these The kit is said to enhance the development and integration of autonomous aircraft algorithms.
At the moment, no results have been reported other than the flight duration, but Lockheed Martin seems to be planning to develop this technology in the future.
Note that AI can be used not only in combat systems. For example, in Russia, AI has been developed to diagnose depression using biomarkers.
