NASA will have the first meteorological network on another planet

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is close to forming the first meteorological network on another planet.

It’s about getting information about the weather on Mars. This information will help in organizing future manned missions and establishing a colony on the Red Planet.

It is reported that the formation of a meteorological network will be possible after the arrival of the planetary rover Perseverance to Mars in February next year. The equipment of this device includes the Mars Environmental Dynamics Analyzer (MEDA) complex – a specialized system of sensors for measuring temperature, wind speed and direction, pressure, relative humidity, size, and shape of dust. In addition, the complex contains a SkyCam camera (shown in the second image), which will allow taking pictures of the cloud cover.

On Mars, MEDA will operate in conjunction with the onboard sensors of the Curiosity rover and the InSight probe. The latter is equipped with a seismometer and a device for measuring the heat flow under the surface of the Red Planet.

Thus, by receiving information from three spacecraft, NASA will be able to generate detailed reports of Martian weather. This will allow, for example, to predict possible storms.
