We are talking about the Audi Q6L e-tron, Q6L Sportback e-tron and A6L e-tron

The Audi Q6L e-tron, Q6L Sportback e-tron and A6L e-tron will receive BYD lithium iron phosphate batteries and NMC ternary lithium batteries from CATL, as reported by Chinese media. The cars will be produced at the FAW-Audi joint venture.

The letter L in the name of Audi cars means that these are versions only for China with a longer wheelbase. FAW-Audi is Audi’s Chinese joint venture with state-owned auto giant First Automobile Works. Audi and VW own 60% of the shares in the project, and FAW – 40%.

The FAW-Audi JV is building a large electric vehicle production plant in northeast China in Changchun, Jilin province, at a cost of 2.6 billion euros. It will have an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, occupy 2.46 million square meters, and production is scheduled for December 2024. It will produce Audi electric vehicles based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), developed jointly with Porsche.

BYD LFP batteries have lower energy density and tend to cost less, so they should be used in entry-level models. CATL NMC batteries are more expensive and have a higher energy density, so they should appear in the top trim levels.

The first electric car to roll off the assembly line at the Changchun plant will be the Audi Q6L e-tron.
