You can order a version with a 6-speed “mechanics” instead of an 8-speed “automatic”
Toyota has been teasing potential buyers for months with its new-generation Tacoma pickup truck, and today the car is finally officially unveiled.
We can say that the new generation Tacoma is a Tundra at a minimum: the design (outside and inside) is made with an eye to the older model, but the pickup itself is, of course, more compact (in the Toyota hierarchy, the Tundra is a full-size pickup, and Tacoma is a mid-size one).
New car – new power plants. We can even say that they are completely new: the old and well-known 2.7 and 3.5 gasoline engines have been retired. At the same time, Tacoma did not lose power, and even won in consumption (especially if we take into account versions with manual transmission).
The base for the new Tacoma was a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.4-liter turbo engine – it produces 231 hp. and is now combined with an 8-speed “automatic” instead of the 6-speed previously. In more expensive versions, the same motor is installed, but more powerful (obviously, with a different turbine): in combination with a 6-speed manual transmission, it develops 270 hp, with an “automatic” – 282 hp.
At the top of the Tacoma range with the i-Pro Max hybrid powertrain, which includes a 2.4-liter engine and an electric motor integrated into the automatic transmission (a typical layout for Toyota hybrids). Total power – 331 hp
New Toyota Tacoma unveiled
The base Tacoma is rear-wheel drive. Medium versions offer plug-in all-wheel drive with a two-stage transfer case and a limited slip differential. In the top versions – permanent all-wheel drive with a locking center clutch.
The new Tacoma is built on the TNGA-F platform, on which the well-known Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in Russia is based. But for the pickup, the frame was made stiffer. Interestingly, in expensive versions, instead of springs, there will be a multi-link suspension, and in top versions, they will also have adjustable shock absorbers. There are two cab options: one-and-a-half and double, there are also two options for the length of the loading platform: 1.52 and 1.82 m.
The top version of the TRD Pro will get flared wheel arches and a signature LED headlight in the grille, 18-inch wheels with 33-inch tires, Fox Quick Switch sports shock absorbers, reinforced levers and the ability to disable the anti-roll bar.
The equipment has a large number of options, but the basic version already includes the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 security system and two screens: a 7-inch one in front of the driver and an 8-inch one as part of the media system. In the top versions – screens with a diagonal of 12.3 and 14 inches, respectively.
Prices have not yet been announced. It is expected that the next novelty of Toyota will be the new generation Camry sedan – the premiere could take place in November.
