The word “Lada” disappeared from the name
Once upon a time, this enterprise, located in St. Petersburg, was called Nissan Manufacturing RUS and produced Nissan cars. After Nissan left Russia, the plant was transferred to AvtoVAZ and renamed Lada St. Petersburg. And recently the company was once again renamed: now it is called “Avtozavod St. Petersburg”. As you can see, the word “Lada” has disappeared from the name. Why?
No more Lada. St. Petersburg AvtoVAZ plant was renamed due to sanctions
It turned out because of sanctions. The situation was explained by auto expert and host of the Telegram channel “Russian Automobile” Sergei Tsyganov.
“ I was told that employees of the Lada St. Petersburg (formerly Nissan) plant have for some time been prohibited from using this name in business correspondence. Because it contains the sanctioned word Lada. This was especially true for correspondence with the Chinese, in which it was ordered to replace the name with something neutral, such as “our factory”. This couldn’t go on for long, of course. And so the plant was renamed. Now no Lada. The plant is called simply: “Automobile Plant St. Petersburg.” The legal entity is also called ,” said Sergei Tsyganov.
He also added: “ One of the workers wrote to me that “everything is secret, everyone is afraid, the fate of the plant is in question.” However, preparations for Chery production continue .”
Let us recall that earlier the head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, said that the St. Petersburg plant will be fully operational in 2024 .
