And even more so with the usual Redmi K40
If Huawei does not mind using displays curved on the sidewalls even in budget flagships nova 8, then Redmi is in no hurry to introduce such screens. At least, the future low-cost flagships Redmi K40 and K40 Pro will definitely not have them.
No waterfall screen for Redmi K40 Pro
This follows from a dialogue that took place on Weibo between one of the users of this Chinese social network and the director of Xiaomi for new products, Wang Teng Thomas. The first asked if Redmi was going to use curved displays, the second replied, “Not now.” It follows from this that neither the Redmi K40, which should be presented in December, nor the Redmi K40 Pro, which will debut in February-March, will have a waterfall screen. There are a lot of reasons for this decision, but the main one is probably the price: a curved screen is more expensive to manufacture and purchase, and Redmi hardly wants to increase the cost of its flagships – it is enough that Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro have added a lot in price in comparison with predecessors. And it’s not yet clear how expensive the Mi 11 and Mi 11 Pro will be.
And here’s another thing about the screens of these models. The Redmi K40 is rumored to have a flush-mounted front camera, while the Redmi K40 Pro may keep the slide-out one like the Redmi K30 Pro. Thus, for fans of “clean” displays, the older model will be preferable.
