This is the last representative of the team that made Nokia a leader in the smartphone market.
Sari Baldauf took over as Nokia’s chairman of the board, succeeding Risto Siilasmaa, who led the Finnish telecommunications equipment manufacturer for eight years.
Nokia is headed by 64-year-old Sari Baldauf
Baldauf is one of the most senior women leaders in the telecommunications industry. She led the company at a difficult time when Nokia will have to compete in the new market for equipment for 5G networks with Ericsson and Huawei. Baldauf, who turned 64 last year, was a member of the Nokia Board from 1994 to 2005 and rejoined it in 2018.
She remained at Nokia as the last representative of the management team led by Jorma Ollila. In the late 1990s, this team turned a Finnish company with a tiny technical division into the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones.
In a video address to shareholders at the annual general meeting this week, Siilasmaa praised Baldauf’s experience and assured that she would focus on improving financial results.
