NVIDIA Ampere Gaming Graphics Designed to Repeat Pascal Success

NVIDIA’s quarterly report was published not so long ago, and we can recall that in the current quarter the company expects a 25% increase in revenue in the gaming segment. It should be borne in mind that these expectations are based not only on the demand for new video cards of the GeForce RTX 30 family but also on the continuing popularity of Nintendo game consoles.

NVIDIA founder Jensen Huang openly addressed the owners of the Pascal generation video cards, which debuted in 2016, at yesterday’s presentation of the gaming novelties of the fall season. “All my friends using Pascal! Now is the time to renew, ”said Jen-Hsun Huang in his address. Representatives of Bank of America have already noted earlier that now no more than 10% of users of the Steam service have video cards that can compete in speed with modern game consoles. The release of new consoles this fall will only exacerbate the gap, so PC platform supporters will be forced to consider buying new graphics cards.

An additional incentive to choose representatives of the Turing or Ampere families will be the emergence of support for ray tracing in next-generation game consoles. At the reporting conference, NVIDIA representatives made it clear that the Turing market cycle is far from over. According to the results of yesterday’s presentation, it became clear that two of the three models of video cards of the Ampere generation will retain the starting prices of their predecessors, but the niche “up to $ 499” will probably have to be occupied by video cards of the Turing family and older ones.

In March last year, NVIDIA announced that representatives of the Pascal architecture occupy 50% of the client base in the desktop and mobile segments, Turing at that time claimed a modest 2%, but by now it has probably significantly strengthened its position. In August, the head of NVIDIA said that the Turing architecture forms about a third of the client base of GeForce graphics cards.

Deutsche Bank experts remind that the release of previous gaming architectures affected NVIDIA’s revenue in different ways. If Pascal raised it by 59%, then Turing dropped it by 2%. It should be understood, however, that the Turing family made its debut in difficult conditions when the ray tracing ecosystem was just beginning to form, and the public consciousness was not yet ready for NVIDIA’s new pricing policy. It looks like this time the company has done without excesses if you do not take into account the recommended cost of the GeForce RTX 3090, which reached $ 1,499.
