NVIDIA is giving away new Call of Duty to customers with GeForce RTX 30-series graphics cards. Some thought it was mockery.

NVIDIA has launched a promotion in which buyers of GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 gaming video cards, as well as computers with these accelerators, will be able to receive a free code to download the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War game. The promotion will run until December 10, 2020. You must activate the received code before January 11, 2021. Earlier, the manufacturer held a similar campaign with the participation of the Watch Dogs: Legion game.

New owners of GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 video cards (the GeForce RTX 3070 model does not take part in the promotion), as well as gaming systems based on them, can expect to receive the following bonuses:

  • The digital copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Standard Edition itself;
  • Woods Operation in-game set;
  • In-game set of Confrontation Weapons.It is not surprising that manufacturers use various promotions to promote a new product, during which you can get some kind of free bonus along with the product as a gift. And if in any other case this step is viewed very positively, then against the background of the catastrophic shortage of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series video cards, the NVIDIA action looks like a real mockery of the buyer. Recall that yesterday we announced the start of sales of reference versions of the GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 in Russia, within which only 130 video cards were available throughout the country.

    The shortage of GeForce RTX 30 series models is observed not only in Russia but throughout the world. And we are talking not only about the reference versions of the Founders Edition but also about non-reference versions from NVIDIA partners. Many buyers who pre-ordered GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 video cards a month ago still haven’t received them.

    The start of sales of the GeForce RTX 3070 model repeated the sad history of older models. Yesterday’s launch revealed that many buyers who placed an order to purchase the younger GeForce RTX 3070 eventually received emails stating that their order had been canceled.

    In Russia, reference samples of the RTX 3070, available in an amount of only three dozen pieces, were instantly sold out. A limited number of non-reference variants of this model were offered by retailers at significantly inflated prices. Nevertheless, many positions were also sold out. There are only those left that are sold with a margin of several tens of thousands of rubles. At the same time, many purchased video cards have already ended up on secondary trading sites, where speculators have exhibited them at even more inflated prices. This is probably why NVIDIA modestly does not mention retail points on its official website where you can purchase non-reference versions of the above video cards.

    The only solution recommended by NVIDIA is “buying a video card” as part of a new gaming computer.

    Is it really worth the effort to get a free copy of the game?
