NVIDIA will release a new version of the GeForce RTX 3060 with a more efficient mining limiter

According to the Chinese edition of HKEPC, NVIDIA plans to release a new Ampere GPU modification with a more efficient mining limiter. The source indicates that the new GPU is labeled GA106-302. It will replace the GA106-300 chip, which is used in the GeForce RTX 3060 video card. The new GPU will receive a new ID, so the video card will not work with the currently existing graphics drivers.

At the beginning of the year, NVIDIA introduced the GeForce RTX 3060 video card. Its feature was the built-in mining limiter, which reduces the efficiency of mining the popular Ethereum cryptocurrency. Despite the manufacturer’s good intentions, users soon discovered that the graphics card could still generate income even with a cap. Worse, NVIDIA later accidentally released a driver that made this mining limiter completely useless.

Now it is reported that a video card based on GPU GA106-302 will not only be unable to work with a driver that removes the limitation of mining efficiency, the manufacturer also plans to use “additional means of protection” for it. Thanks to this, mining Ethereum on the new version of the GeForce RTX 3060 will be unprofitable.

It is expected that the new GA106-302 chips as part of the GeForce RTX 3060 will begin to appear sometime in May. It is noted that in technical terms, there is no difference between GA106-302 and GA106-300.
