Ohio Amusement park guest hit by phone on 70mph roller coaster

Ohio Amusement Park guest hit by phone on 70mph roller coaster

Over the weekend, a visitor at Cedar Point amusement park in Ohio suffered an injury when a cell phone struck their head while they were on the Maverick roller coaster. David Carter, who was on the ride with another guest carrying the cell phone, recounted on Facebook how the device unexpectedly flew out of a passenger’s pocket, hitting him in the head. The impact resulted in an open head wound that bled for an extended period and led to a diagnosed concussion.

As a result, Carter said that the injury left an open head wound which bled for over an hour in addition to a diagnosed concussion. (David Carter)

Expressing concern over the incident, Carter emphasized the importance of following safety rules to avoid potentially worse outcomes. A spokesperson from Cedar Point acknowledged the incident in a statement given to the Detroit Free Press, explaining that a cell phone fell from one guest’s pocket during the ride, injuring another visitor. The injured individual received prompt treatment from the park’s first aid team and was subsequently released.

Cedar Point’s safety regulations include requiring visitors to secure loose items, such as cell phones, during rides to prevent accidents like this one. Despite the park’s efforts to ensure safety, Carter expressed disappointment with their response to the incident.
