OnePlus 8T unveiled: 120Hz screen, 65W charging and large battery

OnePlus unveiled the updated OnePlus 8T smartphone at today’s presentation – it will replace the OnePlus 8 announced in April, but there will be no replacement for the OnePlus 8 Pro. The company has improved the key characteristics of the previous model, but you shouldn’t count on something special.

The OnePlus 8T retains the 6.55-inch display, but the refresh rate has increased to 120 Hz (the speed of the touch sensor is up to 240 Hz). The rest of the characteristics of the flat screen Fluid AMOLED with HDR10 + support are the same: perforation for a single 16-megapixel camera and Full HD + resolution (1080 × 2400). The display is protected by a 2.5D Gorilla Glass panel and can offer DisplayMate A + certification – the company claims color accuracy is better than any other smartphone on the market. The two ambient light sensors on the front, as well as the AI technology and an additional sensor on the back, promise perfect brightness adjustment (8192 levels, maximum brightness – 1100 nits).

The second innovation is the battery charging capacity extended to 4500 mAh. Wireless charging is still missing (unlike the OnePlus 8 Pro), but fast wired charging has become even more powerful – Warp Charge 65, that is, 65-Watt. Even after 800 charge cycles, the battery will still be able to offer 80% of its maximum capacity.

The device uses the same 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip (8 cores CPU Kryo 585 @ 2.84 GHz and GPU Adreno 650), which works in conjunction with RAM volume of 8 GB or 12 GB of LPDDR4X standard and high-speed UFS 3.1 storage capacity of 128 GB or 256 GB (with TurboWrite and HPB technologies). Support for 5G networks is provided by the Snapdragon X55 modem.

The manufacturer promises improved heat dissipation due to an enlarged evaporation chamber. During the presentation, the company announced that Fortnite will run at 90 FPS on its flagship smartphones, despite the fact that some manufacturers have banned the game on their platform (a transparent allusion to Apple).

The rear camera remains almost the same: 48-megapixel main module Sony IMX586 with f / 1.75 aperture and optical stabilization; 16MP ultra-wide-angle (123 °) f / 2.2; 5-megapixel macro module and an additional 2-megapixel monochrome sensor. Support for 4K / 60p video recording in HDR mode and with improved stabilization – in stock. The company promises improved video recording quality at night and an advanced gyroscope and OIS stabilizer.

The weight of the device has become slightly larger: 188 grams (versus 180 for the OnePlus 8T), as well as the dimensions of 160.7 × 74.1 × 8.4 mm (versus 160.2 × 72.9 × 8 mm). The device is available in green and gray colors and has a special pleasure to the touch texture.

Other features include dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support; the presence of Wi-Fi 6; improved tactile feedback Haptic Vibration 2.0; support for USB 3.1; Bluetooth 5.1; NFC; as well as the lightweight OxygenOS 11 platform based on Android 11. There is a slot for two SIM-cards and a sub-screen fingerprint scanner. Thanks to the collaboration with Bitmoji, the smartphone offers the ability to create personalized avatars, which will then be displayed on the lock screen and in chats, based on user actions and the environment.

OnePlus 8T will hit the European market on October 20 in 8/128 GB versions for € 599 and 12/256 GB for € 699. In the US, there will only be a 12/256 GB variant for $ 749, and sales there will start on the 23rd. Pre-orders have already started in Europe and the US.
