Oppo introduced the flagship Find X3 Pro with a built-in “microscope”

After a lengthy series of leaks and hints, Oppo has made a full announcement of its 2021 flagship. Find X3 Pro is a nice-looking and powerful phone with an unusual design and some unique features. This product is important for Oppo, which recently overtook Huawei in the Chinese smartphone market and will try to make the most of its sanctioned rival this year.

The most impressive visual element of the Find X3 Pro is the bulge of the camera block, which smoothly protrudes from the common piece of protective glass for the backside – such a solution was one of the first to be presented by Apple. In combination with the finish, which shines and shimmers rather aggressively, it seems that the device is made of liquid metal.

The camera system itself is no less unusual. There are main and ultra-wide-angle modules. Both use 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 1 / 1.56 “sensors; that is, the quality of images on both lenses promises to be comparable (usually, manufacturers use an ultra-wide-angle module much worse than the main one).

There is also a 3MP macro module, which should not be confused with the useless macro cameras found in some phones today. Oppo claims that this model can be zoomed up to 60x – more like a microscope than a macro lens. With this module, you can capture, for example, subpixels on screens, and there is even a ring illumination of the object. Perhaps many will not be too interested in this, but the journalist The Verge confirmed that everything is working fine and even took a macro photo of his computer monitor:

Not the whole picture is in focus because the depth of field is extremely shallow when shooting at such a close distance – we are literally talking about millimeters. Therefore, it may take some practice with the camera to get decent photos. According to the journalist, the macro module is more suitable for viewing something in a macro mode in real-time than for shooting.

Unfortunately, the smartphone lacks a periscope-like lens, although Oppo has done more to popularize this technology in the past. Instead, the smartphone will offer a standard zoom module with a 13-megapixel sensor resolution. It’s not too bad, but still, the Find X3 Pro won’t be able to offer 5x zoom like its predecessor.

The Find X3 Pro display is another important feature of the device. It uses an OLED LTPO panel with a 3216 × 1440 resolution and 1300 nits peak brightness and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, which can be reduced to 5 Hz if necessary to save energy, for example, when reading. Oppo emphasizes that we are talking about a 10-bit panel, and full-color management is built into the ColorOS shell. This means that cameras and videos captured by cameras can be displayed in over a billion colors instead of 16.7 million colors on conventional smartphone screens.

Otherwise, the Find X3 Pro has the typical characteristics of modern flagships: Snapdragon 888 processor, 5G support, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of high-speed storage. The 4500 mAh battery supports 65-watt wired charging and 30-watt wireless charging (the latter can fully charge the phone for 80 minutes). The Find X2 Pro’s lack of wireless charging has been a big drawback to the Pro for many, so Oppo has fixed that omission.

Unfortunately, there are no prices yet, no details about the start of sales of the Find X3 Pro. However, Oppo plans to share this key information as early as next week. Those who wish can also familiarize themselves with a couple of video reviews of this curious device:
