OxygenOS 11 is here! Stable version available on OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro

Another piece is added to the mosaic of the new OnePlus: the stable version of OxygenOS 11 based on Android 11 arrives on the Oneplus 8 and 8 Pro flagships, and it is probably one of the most important iterations, destined to mark a turning point for the following ones. Mind you, at first glance, the changes are not so clear: but then by entering the Settings you can already appreciate a shift of the user interface downwards, in the style of Samsung’s One UI.

Beyond the practicality or otherwise of the choice, it is an unequivocal signal: OnePlus is moving away from its original philosophy, it is doing it with an increasingly broad catalog of products ( see the North already released and the other two on the way, in addition to the top of the 8T range ), and also with a vision of the user experience that no longer coincides with that of Android Stock, a feature that had marked the identity of the brand in recent years, making it a reference for those looking for a clean and no-frills.

OnePlus, therefore, is changing its skin, and has taken a direction that will probably align its policies with those of the dominant brands of the market: for this reason, there is also a personalization that aims to be recognizable, to express an identity, to build an image. of the strongest brand. But what are the main news? OnePlus itself has isolated those key :

  • System
    • A new UI design, with various detail optimizations, brings a more hands-on experience
    • The all-new Weather app UI supports dynamic switching between sunrise and sunset. Now you can have day and night at your fingertips.
    • Optimized stability on some third party applications, improved user experience.
  • Game Space
    • Game dedicated settings added to easily enable and disable dedicated Fnatic mode. Now you can choose three notification modes to not spoil your immersion in the game.
    • Added the ability to send a quick reply in a small window regarding Instagram and WhatsApp notifications. (Enable it by swiping down from the top right / left corners of the screen in game mode)
    • New function to prevent accidental touches. Enable it, swipe down from the top of the screen, click, and the notification bar will appear.
  • Ambient Display
    • Addition of the Ambient Display Always-on function, with the possibility of programming an activation relative to certain times, or for the whole day. (To set it: Settings> Display> Ambient Display)
    • Addition of the new Insight Style to the watch, created in collaboration with the Parsons School of Design. It will change based on your phone usage data. (To set it: Settings> Personalization> Clock style)
    • Added a total of 10 new watch styles. (To set them: Settings> Personalization> Clock style)
  • Dark mode
    • Added the hot key for dark mode, which then is now enabled through the Quick Settings.
    • Support for automatic activation of the function and customization of the time interval. (To set it: Settings> Display> Dark mode> Activate automatically> Activate automatically from dusk to dawn / Custom time interval.)
  • Zen mode
    • Added 5 new themes (ocean, space, prairie and so on) and more timing options.
    • Zen Mode Group Feature Included: You can now invite your friends and enable Zen Mode together.
  • Tunnel
    • Story function that automatically creates weekly videos by drawing on photos and videos in memory.
    • Optimized loading speed, faster image preview.
  • Others
    • The desktop widget may disappear. It can be set as follows: Long press on the desktop – “Widget” – “Settings” – Select the widget.

After reaching 8 and 8 Pro (8T equipped with OxygenOS 11 from the start), the company has already announced that over time the update will also reach other OnePlus devices. Here they are OnePlus 7T Pro, OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6, and OnePlus Nord.

OnePlus also specifies that the release of the update will be gradual. This means that today the update will reach a limited number of users, while in a few days a wider distribution will be started.
