Pacman Goes Into the Real World: Pac-Man Geo Targets Pokemon Go Laurels
Bandai Namco decided to challenge Niantic and its iconic AR game Pokemon Go. The main character of the upcoming Pac-Man Geo should be the legendary Pacman, who turns forty this year. Bandai Namco intends to celebrate this anniversary with the release of Pac-Man Geo, a game that will make users run after virtual balls through the streets of real cities.
The game is expected to be released this fall (on the App Store on November 30). Owners of iOS and Android devices can already register to be notified when the game is available. At the moment, there is no information about Pac-Man Geo, except for its description in Google Play and the Apple App Store. Judging by the description, players will be able to create their own labyrinths or compete in ready-made ones. The game mechanics have not yet been revealed, but it is quite possible to imagine people running around the city with a smartphone in front of their eyes. It is also unknown whether the players will be chased by ghosts, or the essence of the game will consist only in “eating” the pellets.
It is worth noting that the world has not yet recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic, and quarantine measures may greatly hinder Bandai Namco’s plans to gain popularity at the level of Pokemon Go.
