Sales of laptops in annual terms will grow by 70.2%
According to the forecast of experts of the analytical company IDC, this year the market of ready-made personal computers in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) is expected to grow steadily. It is expected that for the year in the specified region will be sold 96.4 million PCs, which is 16.0% more than last year. At the same time, analysts predict a record high growth for the first quarter – 39.1% compared to the same period in 2020. They justify their optimism by the continued effect of the restrictions associated with the pandemic. These restrictions force huge numbers of users to work, study and play remotely.
PC sales expected to hit record high in Western Europe this quarter
Particularly high growth is expected in Western Europe. According to the IDC forecast, it will be 60.5%, which is the highest value in the entire history of market observations. Moreover, the notebook segment is expected to grow 70.2% in sales as consumers move from one PC per family to a “everyone has their own PC” approach. However, in the segment of desktop PCs there is an increase in demand, stimulated by interest in games. In the current quarter, desktop PCs in Western Europe will be sold 21.6% more than a year ago. According to analysts, the demand for gaming PCs has suffered little from the release of the next generation of gaming consoles.
In general, in the EMEA region, the market distribution between PCs of different form factors for 2021 is predicted as follows: regular laptops – 26.5%, ultra-thin laptops – 45.1%, convertible laptops – 8.2%, conventional desktops – 16.6% %, monoblock PCs – 3.7%.
