Photo of the day: a look at the amazing spiral branches of the galaxy with a jumper

The Hubble Orbital Telescope (NASA / ESA Hubble Space Telescope), celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, transmitted to the Earth a bewitching image of the galaxy with the designation NGC 4848.

The named object is located in the constellation Volos Veronica. It was discovered back in 1865 by the German astronomer of Huguenot origin Heinrich Louis d’Arrest, who is known as one of the discoverers of the planet Neptune.

NGC 4848 is a barred spiral galaxy. A characteristic feature of this type of structure is the presence of a “bar” of bright stars, which emerges from the center and crosses the galaxy in the middle.

The presented photograph clearly shows the spiral branches of the galaxy. They look like silver-blue swirls spinning counterclockwise.

It should be noted that the inner spiral arms of NGC 4848 are inhabited by hundreds of thousands of young hot stars.

We add that barred spiral galaxies are quite numerous. Observations show that approximately two-thirds of spiral galaxies have a jumper.
