Photo of the day: amazing space objects through the eyes of several telescopes

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has presented a selection of magnificent photographs of various objects in the vastness of the universe.

Each of the images combines data from multiple telescopes. At the same time, all the published images contain information obtained from the Chandra X-ray Observatory, which was launched back in 1999.

The first image shows the Cigar galaxy, also known as Messier 82 and M82. It is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major. The structure is distinguished by powerful star formation. Data from the Hubble Space Telescope were used to form the image.

The second image shows us Abell 2744 – Pandora’s Cluster. This is a gigantic cluster of galaxies formed by the simultaneous collision of at least four separate small clusters of galaxies. The third photo shows Supernova 1987A, a supernova that exploded on the outskirts of the Tarantula Nebula. Both images combine data from Chandra and Hubble.

The fourth image shows Eta Carinae, a double hypergiant star in the constellation Carinae. The star is very active and throws stellar winds into space at speeds up to ten million kilometers per hour. The fifth image shows the Cartwheel galaxy with an unusual structure. These images are also obtained by combining information from Chandra and Hubble.

The gallery closes with an image of the Helix Nebula, a planetary nebula in the constellation Aquarius. This image, in addition to data from these telescopes, also uses information from the Spitzer Space Telescope and from the GALEX Observatory (Galaxy Evolution Explorer).
