Presented smartphones OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. Top version now costs $ 1,000

China will obviously be cheaper

OnePlus has just unveiled its new flagship smartphones. Almost all of the information about them hit the Network many days before the announcement, so we need to take stock.

Presented smartphones OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. Top version now costs $ 1,000

To begin with, it is worth noting that OnePlus still held a conditionally classic presentation, but, of course, in front of an empty room. Most likely, we saw a recording, not a real live broadcast, but it does not matter.

No design revolution has occurred. Apart from the OnePlus 7T, the overall design has not changed much since OnePlus 6. In front, the main change is that the front camera is now located in the hole, and in the display in both versions.

So, today introduced the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. OnePlus Z has not been shown, and it is not yet clear when it will be released. The difference between the older and younger models this year is very significant, while both models can be called improved versions of the previous generation, as there are minimum cardinal differences.

OnePlus 8 Pro has become, apparently, a conditionally ideal smartphone company. He finally received both wireless charging, with a power of 30 watts, and full protection against water (IP68) – this is what her fans have been asking from OnePlus for many years.

The OnePlus 8 has neither wireless charging nor protection against water, which makes it even more similar to its predecessor. Moreover, in some ways the OnePlus 8 is even worse than the OnePlus 7T.

Both new products, of course, are based on the SoC Snapdragon 865. OnePlus 8 Pro received a 120-Hertz display with a diagonal of 6.78 inches with a resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels, a maximum brightness of 1300 cd / m2 and support for HDR10 +. OnePlus 8 has a slightly simpler display. Its diagonal is 6.55 inches, resolution – 2400 x 1080 pixels, frame frequency – 90 Hz, maximum brightness – 1100 cd / m2.

There is also a difference in the cameras. The OnePlus 8 Pro received four sensors. The main thing here is the 48-megapixel Sony IMX689 with an optical format of 1 / 1.4 inches. There is also a 48-megapixel “shirik” (IMX586), a “telephoto” with three-time optical and 30-fold hybrid zoom, as well as a camera, which the manufacturer calls the color filter. But OnePlus 8 has a triple camera, but there are only two useful sensors: a 48-megapixel IMX568 as the main one and a 16-megapixel “wide”. The third module is a macro camera. Recall that even the OnePlus 7T has a “telephoto”. By the way, it is also worth noting that this generation is the first in OnePlus, where the main camera of the older version is completely different than the younger one.

Separately, OnePlus focused on the presence of the older version of three microphones with the audio zoom function and the function of converting video with a frame rate of 24 fps to video at 120 fps, for which there is even a separate microprocessor in the smartphone.

Now about the rest. Both smartphones have 8 or 12 GB of RAM, while the younger uses LPDDR4X, and the older uses LPDDR5. Flash memory in both models is 128 or 256 GB. The battery capacity of the younger model is 4300 mAh, the oldest is 4510 mAh, while both support fast 30-watt charging. OnePlus 8 has optical stabilization on the main sensor of the camera, OnePlus 8 Pro also has “telephoto”. The resolution of the front camera is 16 megapixels for both smartphones. Both also have stereo speakers, the new Haptic Vibration 2.0 vibration motor, Wi-Fi 6 and a USB 3.1 port. The dimensions of the youngest are 160.2 x 72.9 x 8 mm with a mass of 180 g, the oldest – 165.3 x 74.3 x 8.5 mm with a mass of 199 g.

OnePlus 8 Pro is available in black, blue and green, OnePlus 8 is available in black, green and pearl.

As for prices, smartphones are expectedly more expensive. OnePlus 8 depending on the configuration costs 700 or 800 dollars, OnePlus 8 Pro – 900 or 1000 dollars. Yes, OnePlus smartphones have also officially entered the $ 1,000 club, although formally the price of the older version is $ 999. To clarify, we are talking about the US market – in China, smartphones will be cheaper. However, if we are talking about the OnePlus 8 Pro and the US or European market, this model clearly lost the status of the flagship killer. Sales start on April 21.
