Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G processor targets next generation connected laptops

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G processor for laptops with a constant Internet connection at the IFA 2020 Electronics Show in Berlin.

The product is manufactured using 7-nanometer technology. It is based on eight Kryo 495 computing cores and the Adreno graphics accelerator with support for the DX12 software interface. RAM LPDDR4x-2133 can be used; Compatible with NVMe SSD and UFS 3.0 drives.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem is responsible for supporting fifth-generation mobile networks with non-autonomous (NSA) and autonomous (SA) architectures. The ability to work with all major bands has been implemented, whether it is below 6 GHz or millimeter waves. The data download speed can theoretically reach 7 Gbps, the transmission speed towards the base station is 3 Gbps. There is a receiver of satellite navigation systems Beidou / Galileo / GLONASS / GPS.

Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G devices can be equipped with a dual-camera in a 16 + 16 million pixel configuration or a single 32-megapixel camera. Screen resolution – up to 4K / Ultra HD.

Among other things, the mentioned controllers Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) with 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ fast charging technology.

The first laptops based on Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G will arrive later this year. They will operate under the Windows 10 operating system.
